Panorama

One of my photos featured in Tesla Motors article

My panorama photo featured in an article by Tesla Motors

I have been fortunate to have one of my photos featured in an article by the electric car company Tesla Motor. The article is about my ophthalmologist Jens Kratholm – a Tesla superowner with no less than 7 Teslas in his automotive fleet!

Within a short time I have provided the world renowned media company Trollbäck+Company and now Tesla Motors with my photos. I am really happy and honored that not only my regular readers – but also major companies notice my photographic work! This article was picked up by several major newspapers, including The New York Times.

The Quick and The Slow – cranking out Northern Lights

I have a sensational old and slow computer. So cranking out Northern Lights photos is a slow and tedious process in sharp contrast to my camera, which is fast as lightning in comparison when it comes to process photos…

This is one more from yesterday in relation to my last post – see the Home-page.

The Thereminist and The Northern Light

On the third night in a row I went out scouting for the Northern Lights yesterday. I had good company in Danielle and Kent Robin. Liv-Bente had prepared the grounds (if you’d like me to, I’ll explain this in a later post). Just in time for the show, Wenche came along with an exchange student, Ayan from Thailand and an old friend – Rune – and a friend of his – Cathrine – from Narvik Fotoklubb – The local photo club came to scout the skies as well. There were quite a few tripods and camera at one point, but it is always nice to trade tips and tricks in the very skilled and difficult art of taking good northern lights shots.

So what about the title on this post? – you might ask… Well, when there is nobody else out there chatting along, I can actually hear music when I see the northern lights flickering and meandering across the night sky. My good friend – the brilliant singer and thereminist – Amethyste plays along with the light in my mind. She has an angelical voice. I suppose it is simply and purely a question of associations between beautiful things in my life.

Silent Night by the Fjord

Shot this composite last night. The growth of forest here on Ankenes is tremendous, but not many seems to care. Thus just popping out to get a shot of the beautiful scenery gets harder and harder due to obstruction of trees.

Anyway, was about to go to bed, when very calm water in Narvik harbor basin lured me with its beautiful reflections to set up my tripod and take a few shots. Unfortunately, a lot of the view is now totally obscured by the trees growing ever bigger around here.

Update 1830 zulu time – faint radio signal picked up

In relation to my previous post – crew of five missing – news update at 1830 zulu time was that a Danish SAR helicopter has picked up a faint radio signal, most likely from the emergency positioning radio beacon from the missing airplane just across the border on the Swedish side. The signal was picked up near Kebnekaise, the highest mountain in Sweden (2,106 meters). As the picture illustrates, the Kebnekaise mountain region is on a clear day extreme terrain. And right now it is night and extremely low visibility according to a Swedish reporter in the area.

IVS KANDA – a small ship

I caught this picture of the iron ore carrier IVS KANDA today. It is a relatively small ship in regard to what the usual tonnage of the carriers that come to Narvik usually are. IVS KANDA is from Singapore, she is going to take on iron ore at pier No 5 bound for Rostock. Right now she has been waiting in port for 11 days to get the load. It is quite busy here now with lots of carriers anchored up all around the fjord and harbor bassin. IVS KANDA is just 32,621  DWT, which is just 1/8 the size of the bigger ships coming in here to load up with the fines iron ore in the world.

So next time you thunder down the highway in your new car or you’re frying some meat in your frying pan, maybe they are made from steel that IVS KANDA transported from Narvik this cold and windy february in 2012.

The City and The Mountains instead

I went out in a cold (freezing) weather last night to take a few Northern Lights shots, but unbelievably messed up the focus. So I ended up with a panorama of the City Narvik and the surrounding mountains instead. The mountains are basked in the light from the full moon. Not any other full moon, but the very full moon the tribes of the North-American native people (indians) designated Wolf Moon! Please click on the photo, to see the finer details!
