Autumns Delight
Eventhough the birds are having a feast in our 150 year old Redcurrant (Ribes rubrum) threes, I manged to find a few berries they haven’t eaten.
What is this!? (Delicious!)
Try landing on the Moon!
If you’re a history-buff, love space exploration like me and love flying – you’ll have to try this game!!! Moonlander by PlanetInAction.com I have only tried it in Google Chrome and it requires Google Earth plugin. If you’ve got the latest version of Google Earth and Chrome installed on your system, you have already got the plugin.
Steering the landing-craft of Apollo 11 – the first landing-craft to put man on the Moon – (at 02:39 UTC on Monday July 21 (10:39pm EDT, Sunday July 20), 1969) – is quite easy!
Use the left ← and right → arrow keys on your keyboard to control the pitch of The Eagle. Fire your engine in bursts by pressing the space-bar button on your keyboard. You can try a landing with unlimited fuel, but that is cheating ;o)
Keep an eye on the fuel gauge top right side, and keep the speed in the green area!
First you’ll need to break the orbital insertion velocity. Then pitch the craft upright when you’re over the (red) target landing area. Keep the speed in the green zone! Nice and smooth: touchdown! When you succeed, you’ll hear the actual recording from the landing from Mission Control Houston.
I prefer a full screen to get the most details.
-The Heroes come from the North! Another Airplane Hijack stopped lats night by North-Norwegian!
Last night a passenger (Turkish Airways) plane from Oslo, Norway to Istanbul, Turkey was hijacked by an expelled asylumseeker. A man from Northern Norway – 54 year old Dag Gjerstad from Kvænangen in Troms attacked the hijacker and held him down until the plane landed in Istanbul and the Turkish Police could evacuate the plane and arrest the hijacker.
Muslim terrorist almost killed the Captain and 1st Officer of Kato Air Flight
In 2004 a plane from this city, Narvik enroute to Bodø was hijacked by a muslim terrorist who almost killed the pilots with an axe. The Captain and 1st Officer both sustained serious head injuries and was blinded by blood and partially paralyzed by the violent muslim terrorist. The plane went into a death-dive, and calculations show that the pilot regained control and avoided crashing by some 20 meters… Trond Frantzen and Odd Eriksen – both North-Norwegians attacked the hijacker and battled with him until they managed to free the restrained pilots from their attacker. They almost strangled the hijacker to death until he gave up fighting.
Odd Eriksen broke his back in the following crash landing at the airport in Bodø. The Police couldn’t understand how the pilots managed to land the plane. They both sustained serious head injuries and wounds to their bodies and were partly blinded by blood. The cockpit instruments were soaked in blood. All four heroes, the Captain, 1st Officer, Trond Frantzen and Odd Eriksen and all the passengers survived.
Simple Explanation
Professor in Crisis Psychiatry Lars Weisæth believes the reason why men and women from Northern-Norway are so capable of acting in serious crisis, is because the live in a part of Norway where it is necessary to be able to take Care of yourself. In Northern Norway there is a – at times – violent climate and nature, there is often a long way to the nearest police- and firebrigade-station and the nearest doctor or hospital. Thus forcing us to be able to cope in serious crisis-situations.
-Witness Passivity – a problem
Professor Weisæth says witness passivity is a problem in dramatic events. If the 2004-hijacking had taken place between Oslo and Stockholm chances are the passengers would have been seated, doing nothing, waiting for someone to take action, according to a SAS – Scandinavian Airlines Captain. So being from a city lessens the chance of being a hero.

劉曉波 – Liu Xiaobo – A very dangerous criminal
Well, that’s what the Chinese governtment thinks. They locked this gentle man for 11 years. His crime? He only wants democracy for his people and the great nation of China to prosper. But his vision of prosperity is obviously not what the Communist Party in China envisions as prosperity.
The Nobel Peace Price committee announced on the 8th of October 2010 that this years laureate was Liu Xiaobo. The Chinese government locked his wife up in house arrest, and has since detained all Xiaobo’s relatives. That means his chair at the ceremony today is going to be empty. The last time this happened was when Nazi Germany send Carl von Ossietzky into concentration camp in 1935.
So why is Liu Xiaobo such a “dangerous criminal”. He is a poet by trade, but he has uttered his ideas about a federal state system, with Tibet and Taiwan as free associated states in this union. That is nothing less than blasphemous words in the ears of the Chinese Communist Party.

Allehelgensaften – All-Saints-Evening – Halloween and a bit of history…
Allehelgensaften in Norwegian, more or less directly translates as All-Saints-Evening or in English Halloween is tonight. Halloween traditions have made it’s way into Norwegian culture and we have already had two lovely kids at the door for some candy with the Norwegian term for “trick or treat”: “Knask eller Knep”! 🙂 Lovely!
We’ve also been to the cemetery lighting candles today. At the same time we drove up to a vantagepoint above the city and took some pictures of the beautiful sky and the newly erected memorial over major Ivar Hyldmo, chief of the “Hyldmo-Batallion” that fought long and hard to secure the First Allied Victory during the 2nd World War in recapturing Narvik from the German Nazi Occupation Forces. My grandfather and a lot of my relatives took part in this epic battle to free Narvik. Luckily my two grandfathers (one a Norwegian soldier, infantry, the other a German soldier and radio-operator) and my grandmother (a telegraph-operator) all survived the war in Narvik, or I would not have been here to write this blog…

Major Ivar Hyldmo - Retired Colonel, spent 2 years as a Prisoner of War in Germany - and survived, later became a Brigade-Commander for peace-keeping forces in Germany and a Norwegian Military Attace in London. Now, 70 years after the war he and his men got their memorial in Narvik. Ivar Hyldmo was a loved and respected grade-school teacher by trade. The memorial reads: "Go boys! Norway's at stake! - Erected in Gratitude"

Norwegian Fish – (about) to become a Scam! SIGN PETITION TODAY! Norsk Fiskesvindel – SKRIV UNDER I DAG!
There has been a rotten hustle going on with Norwegian meat for years. It has become a “tradition” pumping the meat full of salt, water, phosphate and other additives to increase the weight, change the color and prolong shelf-life. NOW this scam is about to become an excuse for doing the same with The Norwegian Gold – FISH…! Already some Norwegian fish factories are illegally injecting fish with water, salt and phosphate – and now they want it legalized. Not only water and phosphate is going to be injected into the fish, but also fish-guts…!!! For what? For increasing weight and change color, so you – the consumer – won’t know that the fish is actually old and grey – because the fish meat is still white and shiny…!
What a SCAM! My grandfather Rolv Bjugn was a honest, hard working fisherman and it took a lot to make him angry. But I guarantee you he would not have been happy if he had watched the news yesterday..!
Sign the petition today! Keep Norwegian fish pure and of high quality an value! Please, Click Here – Skriv under i dag – hold norsk fisk ren! Klikk her!

Fresh Moose meat directly from the Forrest
The king of the deer family, the Moose (also known as European Elk, Lat: Alces alces) wander in huge flock around here. Today we got some meat directly from the forrest from a hunter and good friend of ours. The meat is rich in taste. The moose is capable of eating a huge variety of plants. It loves forbes and shoots from especially birch trees. One of the delights it is especially interested in is the shoots from our approximately 150 years old redcurrant bush by our cottage. This seems to be an especially good treat for the moose. From time to time they wander down to the sea as well to get som sodium in their diet from seaweeds and other waterplants.
This varied diet gives a rich and spicy taste to the meat, which the population of Norway has treasured for as long as there has been Norwegians here. In fact the right smack in the middle of Narvik there is a huge (2 meters) stone carving approximately 3.000 years old depicting a moose. The entire area around Narvik is full of stone carvings depicting hunting and fishing scenes by our ancestors.
Well, the first load of moose is in the freezer and in a few days more is coming. Delicious!
